We page memory, flush dirty pages to disk, traverse B-tree pages, paginate APIs, and build web pages. The same word turns up across hardware, operating systems, databases, distributed systems, and user interfaces, yet it rarely means the same thing twice. This talk traces "page" from its origins in virtual memory through storage engines, buffer pools, write-ahead logs, and modern web architectures, looking at how page size encodes hardware assumptions, how page boundaries affect performance and consistency, and how pagination shapes how people interact with data. By connecting memory pages, disk pages, database pages, web pages, and API pages, the talk builds a shared mental model: a page is a boundary, and boundaries define isolation, locality, latency, and scale. About the speaker: Opeyemi Folorunsho is a software engineer and technology leader specialising in distributed systems, data infrastructure, and high-performance financial platforms. As Vice President of Research and Development at Moniepoint, he leads work on scalable transaction processing, ledger systems, and platform engineering across cloud and multi-cluster environments.
