I did. I'm really starting to think I'm loosing it (if indeed I ever 
had it).

For some reason I read the above as "Pragmatic Programmer". So, The 
Practice of Programming *is* a superb book, as is the Pragmatic 
Programmer by Andrew Hunt, Davis Thomas.
